Moving House is a very stressful and time consuming thing to do, but for anyone wanting to move house, it is an inevitable task. Following on from ‘Make Moving Day Easier with these Top Tips - Part One', here is ‘Part Two' of this guide to help make your big move that little bit easier.

Get Help

Moving so many boxes, heavy furniture and awkward picture frames is not going to be very easy on your own. Ask friends and family members to come and help you on the day of your move, to help you carry things out of your house and also up into your new one. Most people will be happy to help as they will be keen to see your new house. If not, try offering to help them next time they are moving house.

Alternatively, if you have a vast amount of belongings or something like a grand piano which required specialist moving equipment, it will definitely be worth employing a professional moving company. There are countless big firms out there who will come with an entire team of strong backs and a huge lorry if you need it and take all the legwork out of the task. If this is a bit too expensive, there are now a number of ‘Man with a Van' enterprises which are precisely that: a man with a van. This option can be inexpensive and give you the use of a van in which to transport everything. Often these smaller companies will help carry things too.

Cleaning Up

If you have rented your property, the onus will be on you to return your property to the landlord in the same condition as you received it before moving to your ideal home. Part of your moving process should involve time to clean up after yourself, because even if you are the cleanest person in the world, when you move your furniture there will be bits you have missed. Allow at least a day to clean and to replace or fix anything which is broken. If you are taking part in a property swap then there is the added pressure of getting the switch synchronised.

Essentially moving house is a simple thing: move your stuff and you from one property to another. However, the sheer volume of belongings people can accumulate, the limitations of the human body, time, money and distance combine to make it one of the toughest things you can do, both mentally and physically. The stress usually comes from the chaotic feeling which comes from having all your personal possessions out of place and the fear of losing control of your life. With these useful tips you can take control of the process and have a successful move. Final tip: always lift from your knees!
