Each and every one of us has a different outlay to life. Some of us are more experienced in certain aspects than others and then there are people that are even better in another area. For many people from a young age all they want to do and envisage doing when they grow up is to get married and have a family. Some people are career orientated and there are others that are more maternal and want families. Regardless of which way you are, possibly at some point in your life you will have children, this is unless you have decided you don’t want or have found out that you can not have children or for other reasons such as medical issues.

Some people may think that these types of people have no aspirations in their lives; however having a family may just be their own goals and every person is different. For the people that think this and for those that are unaware, being a stay at home mum is not an easy job. Generally they are responsible for looking after the children until a reasonable school age, the cleaning, cooking, shopping etc. often they get no help from their partner as they are out at work all day. Realistically being a stay at home mum is a full time job and if you were to employ someone to do all of this work for you whilst she went back to work, you would be astounded at how much it could potentially cost for all of the childcare, cleaning services, cooking, shopping that she provides. Statistics have confirmed that it costs on average around thirty thousand pounds a year for all of this care! This may come as a shock but if you actually add up everything that a stay at home mum does and then get prices for someone to take care of all of those tasks, and then you may be surprised at just how much it actually costs.

Not everyone will be aware of just how much this can potentially cost and therefore when they are shopping around or looking at taking out a form of life and critical illness insurance they will often fail to take this aspect into account. This should ideally be taken into consideration because after all we mostly tend to focus on how much of an income would be lost if the main earner in the family was to die or become ill and be unable to return to their occupation. This should not be the case, after the entire amount that a stay at home mum does surely needs to be taken into consideration and deserves some thought.

Something else that needs to be taken into consideration when shopping around or looking at personal insurance such as life and critical illness insurance is to ensure that you have enough cover in force to protect your children in the event of them being diagnosed with a critical illness. With a policy that an adult takes out, providing that the children are the applicants own whether biological, adopted or surrogate, then they will be covered automatically with some insurance providers. Not every company does this, so if it is something you are looking for then it is advisable to do your research rather than being disappointed after you have bought the insurance policy.

Unfortunately there are some people that fail to realise the importance of looking at life and critical illness insurance from different angles, for example in monetary terms, some lives assured can be caught out and left financially out of pocket for not taking the time to consider different aspects of the insurance policy and the eventualities that may occur. It is very hard to foresee what may happen in the future or even think about it happening to you, but to protect yourself and family you really need to be thinking and planning ahead.
