Having fun with backside tricks so far? In this lesson, I'll give you three more tricks that you could use to maneuver, land, and prepare for another move or well, just for nothing, if you think that's possible. I will begin with the backside air, the magic move, many surfers call it. It makes your routine appear more presentable, even more dramatic. So instead of just doing a bottom turn to go to your next set of trick, finish it with a backside air and you're sure to wow your audience. Here's how to do it.
The first step, need I still tell you, is to catch a wave that will be able to hold. That means the wave should have a steep characteristic and also the right end part. While you are naturally paddling your way against the waves, position your board in downward position going to the open position so you can gain the speed that you need. Next, you stand in your feet fast and then ride the wave with enough pressure and power. When you're already on top of your wave, try next to come down by pushing the lip with the force coming from your front foot. From here, start your bottom turn in minimal angle while also eyeing the lip that you are supposed to launch off. Next, bring your knees so close to your chest while trying to extend the back part of your leg at the same time. Don't be overwhelmed though, be sure to watch your landing so you can end up clean and ride away easily.
Next is the backside roundhouse. Like its reverse, many surfers also root for this because it is a lot convenient to execute and does not require much from the players. So sure you'll love it too. Start by catching a backside wave and then ride it in a straight line. Work these while eyeing for a lip where you could go with your board and then target a flat section for your bottom turn. Maintain speed during the entire process because the moment you lose the momentum, you will find it hard to finish the routine. Also keep up with the rail that you are travelling because you will need it for your turn and to maintain the correct angle. Finally, by leg work do a rebound or a sort of jump off the foam ball that you used for your turn then ride out clean.
Backside re-entry is our third trick for this lesson. This is basic so you can relax a little bit. Like the first two, timing and correct positioning of the body is very important here. It all begins with a good bottom turn that is executed with enough speed on to the part of the wave that is steep and has a forthcoming lip. Dive to it and enjoy the momentum until you reach the part where the lip is breaking. Immediately change direction by making a turn but don't go too low so you don't nose dive.
