Late night snacking the guilt free way

Most of us have a habit of staying up late into the night. We are busy working, reading, watching TV. Sometimes we get hungry or crave for food due to boredom. However there are times they are genuine and may happen because of low salt or sugar level, dehydration or simply due to an early dinner. Since you need to satisfied your hunger needs , why not opt for some healthy late night snack.

When we snack late at night. With our stomach grumbling and growling ,our motivation is mostly gratification. we tend to reach for food that is in our sight, when we snack late at night. We need to stop for a moment and think about what you should be eating. Since the next activity that follow is sleep. We do not want to consume food that will disrupt our
sleep.

Listen to your body. Are you driven to eat due to boredom or are you really hungry? Is you body asking for food or water.The main reason you are making a late night snack at night is due to dehydration. Try having a glass of water or make a hot drink. Make sure your drink does not contain caffeine. If that is not suffice. you can try soup which are not cream base. Vegetable soup are ideal since they contain little calorie. Another alternatively you can consider are fresh fruits and vegetable. Apple, oranges, celery, cucumber can be easily sliced into bite size pieces, which are great for snacking. You want to choose food that are rich in protein rather than carbohydrates. Protein rich food takes longer to digest, makes you feel fuller longer.


Try a cup of non fat yoghurt if you want something cooling. You can mix with dried fruits or nuts. Fruits like bananas contain lots of fiber potassium and magnesium which are vital for your body. Crunchy snack like a handful of roasted nuts can be used to satisfy your hunger. If you crave for salty food try some pita chips with dipped sauce. Avoid fried or oily items like pizza or cheese burger. Late night snack should be very light and not equivalent to a full course meal.


Snacking late at night does not necessary means putting on the extra pound. If you are really hungry and not craving for food. It is perfectly all for an occasional to have a snack. Keep the portion small and light.
