More people are turning away from watching TV and following other pursuits. In a recent
report, it was stated that in the USA, the viewing figures for news channels ABC, CBS,
NBC and Fox had dropped by 2.5 million, compared to the previous year, 2006.

The internet is one of the places that people are going to for their entertainment and
enjoyment of their leisure time. In an edition of Internet Business News, it was reported
that in the UK, 70% of people in the 16-20 age group would rather surf the internet than
watch early evening TV.

From the period 2000 to 2006, the number of people on the internet has doubled to one
billion people (source: budd.com.au). Further growth will be at a slower rate, as people
wait for the implementation of broadband in their vicinity and it's anticipated reduced cost.

Coming back to the topic of TV, one of the exciting things about the internet is the ability
of the user to interact with web sites. Whereas TV is a passive experience, requiring that

you just watch and listen, many websites have functions where you can get involved and
express your creativty, emotions, ideas etc. Some of these interactive web sites even
reward you for your input in the form of monetary payment or prizes.

It's no wonder that more people are turning from the TV and spending more time surfing
the net. The web is a vast place, provides rich content and gives you the opportunity to
be a participator and contributor of that content.
