International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer

In 1994, the United Nations General Assembly (UNEP) proclaimed 16th September to be the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. This day is celebrated on the same date every year, in commemoration of the date that the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed. The purpose of the Montreal Protocol is for countries worldwide to reduce, phase out and eliminate ozone-depleting substances! Events are organised by schools, community groups and other local organizations across the world to focus attention on the need to raise the public's awareness of the importance of protecting the Ozone layer.
So why not take part too? If you are looking for a gift or maybe something for yourself, then why not opt for a fabulous eco gift? Instead of getting your car out and driving to the shops, you can automatically reduce your carbon footprint by staying right where you are and logging onto instead!
The CO2 Emissions Climate Relief Pack is the ultimate eco gift! You can give the gift of instantly reducing the amount of CO2 emitted into the atmosphere. This starter pack contains 100Kg of CO2 emission credits, which are bought and retired on your (or the recipient's) behalf. By buying these CO2 emission quotas from big polluting companies, it guarantees that less harmful emissions will be released into the atmosphere. Included in the pack is a Registration and Climate Savers Card, Wall chart, information about carbon credits and the effects CO2 has on our climate and a little book on Living Green!
Computers are everywhere, in the home, office and even out and about in the great outdoors! This makes this next eco gift a perfect present for anyone who lives on the 'super highway'. The Eco Button Power Saver for your Computer is a very clever button that plugs straight into your computer. With one simple push of the button it can instantly put your computer into an energy saving 'eco-mode'. Whenever you take a break from your computer, be it to make a cuppa or make a phone call, simply press the Eco Button. This then ensures that both your computer and monitor only use the same small amount of power as when they are shut down! When you wish to resume working, just press any key on the keyboard. This ingenious button is multitalented too. As not only does it allow you to continue working exactly where you left off, but it also records how many carbon units, how much power and how much money you have saved by using the Eco Button. How amazing is that? You can have your very own personal calorie counter to keep track of your computer carbs!!

Solar powered lights are nothing new. In fact, with so many gardens resembling an airport landing strip, it's a wonder you haven't had a jumbo jet land in your backyard! However in the winter months (and summer too!), the lack of sunlight can leave them looking no brighter than a fireflies butt (which would probably glow brighter!). So why not invest in a fantastic Firewinder Wind Light and harness the power of the wind instead? With LED lights, this garden gadget creates a stunning pulsating light effect as it twirls around in the wind. The stronger the wind, the brighter the lights glow. The Firewinder will work even in a breeze, but if the day is stiller than a concrete statue then just get someone to blow on it! It comes with 2 brackets, so you can attach the wind light to a wall, fence or hang it from a tree branch. Switch to the wonderful Firewinder Wind Light from and save energy. Create a visual feast in your outdoor space and take advantage of the earth's elements!
The Ozone Layer is imperative to our World; just because we cannot see it from down here, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist! The Ozone Layer and the erosion of it, is very real. We all need to be aware, not just on the 16th September but all year round. As they say, the future is in our hands, so it's up to us to make the change.
