Intentions Have Power In Them

A great way to tackle a problem in your life is to set powerful intentions. A good number of people desire to be different, but they simply don't know how to alter their behavior. Lofty goals are often set and seldom achieved, because of a lack of understanding of HOW to set the intention.

When setting an intention to change something about you, you have to be specific and make goals that you can measure and obtain. Visualize your goals. Resolving to alter your lifestyle is basically telling the Universe that you'll cease to resort to a habitual way of living and will implement completely new behaviors as a replacement.

This is much like starting a new exercise routine - you'll be excited at first, and you'll start to feel resistance, especially as your muscles throb and you experience pain as you develop your strength in a new area. You're likely to return to your former habits if you don't have someone to be accountable to, or if you have not created clear, measurable, and distinct goals to achieve. You need to be able to see ongoing results.

This is the way one ought to set goals which you will reach successfully: be specific and have a way to assess on a daily or weekly basis your progress. Locating a life coach and asking for their help might give you the extra support you need to achieve your intentions.

Countless families I work with state their desire for improved communication. This is a goal which is too general. Together we explore ways for them to get very specific. I ask them questions like: What does improved communication look like? How would you know that your family is communicating at the level you want? How would it alter things?

As soon as these questions are answered, then the family comes up with specific, measurable ways to verify that they are progressing in their communication. One family came up with a weekly family event where they passed an ice-cream maker around a circle and whoever was cranking when the music stopped was the one who shared about their week and about how they were doing in general.

Set up a routine, a structure, and the means of determining if your goal is being achieved.
