If you currently have a cold sore and want to get rid of it using Inexpensive Cold Sore Remedies , then this article will help you out. For mine alcohol on it until it scabs over and then I use a constant coating of Neosporin because I consider it a wound at that point. Be careful to not get the alcohol in your mouth if you do this though - especially don't swallow it! (I actually start with the alcohol as soon as I feel the first tingle.)

I agree with you that abreva is too expensive and I don't believe that it really works - not for me anyway. If you get these often, get a prescription from your doctor. Makes them go away really fast. Also as Inexpensive Cold Sore Remedies you can try Vinegar. It kills the bacteria. Also a dab of honey will make it better. Camphophenique Burns but it works, and a lot less expensive than some 'brand name specialty salve. Cold Sores naturally caused by a 'pre-existing virus: "HERPES SIMPLEX- B" (it sounds 'icky' yet more of us than NOT- do have it. just so you don't feel bad)

Tea Tree Oil is also one of the good inexpensive cold sore remedies. You can find it at any drug store in your area. There are also Canker sores that many people confuse with cold sores: Canker sores are small, shallow lesions that develop on the soft tissues in your mouth under your tongue, inside your cheeks or lips, and at the base of your gums. Unlike cold sores, canker sores don't occur on the surface of your lips and aren't contagious. They can be very painful, however, and can make eating and talking difficult.

Most canker sores go away on their own in a week or two. Check with your doctor or dentist if you have unusually large or painful canker sores or canker sores that don't seem to heal. Apply sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher) to the lips to prevent recurrences. Don't touch the blisters. This can spread the virus, as can sharing personal items such as towels, razors, drinking glasses, or toothbrushes

For treatment remedies and options you should also try meditation, yoga, or other forms of relaxation to reduce stress, which is thought to precipitate cold sores. Stay away from nuts, chocolate, whole-grain cereals, and gelatin. They contain a large amount of the amino acid arginine, which some doctors think triggers cold sores. Lysine may counteract its effect.

Supplements can be safely used with prescription antiviral creams, such as acyclovir or penciclovir, which also promote healing of cold sores. Another very cheap and inexpensive cold sore remedy is holding an ice cube to the affected area for a few minutes several times a day. This can help reduce pain and dry out the cold sore.
