"I am yet to break into the big star league in Bollywood, which is hard and difficult as I come from a place where there were no theatres, not even a basic creative environment, all I followed was a dream," says Prachi Desai.

Prachi was in city for the launch of LG's Direct Cool Refrigerators. "I come from a simple family, and I have been brought up in a simple way like other kids," she says.

Desai is equally honest about the excruciating number of hours and hard work that goes in to her work. "In television, you need enough tenacity to sustain your character. In films, you need to innovate, create, and surprise your audience," she says, talking of her upcoming projects— Vikram Tuli's Joker with Rajeev Khandelwal and Ekta Kapoor's Once Upon a Time in Mumbai.

Though young and with long years of learning ahead of her there was one thing that separated her from the other kids; that is a near fixation for Bollywood. She retains the warm smile. "I always and always wanted to be an actor. I don't know why, maybe it was the lure of glitz and glamour. Back in Panchgani where I was studying, I didn't have much choice. I moved to Pune where I auditioned for Kasamh Se after my twelfth boards, and on with it full time later," explains the actor, who swiped her way to tinseltown with the film Rock On.

She goes on, "I am getting work, I am handling the pressure of looking good, I am reading scripts and deciding on my own what will click for me; I am trying to touch base with studies again. I must say, though, it is very difficult for an outsider to pull through." It's just the beginning lady!

Prachi is yet to perfect the art of being a star. There are no tantrums, no demands for special treatments when she came to town for the launch of LG's new range of refrigerators.

Films, she says, happened just in the nick of time. "Television was a great break, and I left in time, before anyone could typecast me," she adds, "I didn't want to play an elderly character on Kasamh Se any longer. I was a teenager then, and it all seemed a little off the track. I enjoyed my innings and graciously left the show, along with yards of sarees and make-up."

Dressed in a white blouse, black tights, and a smile, Prachi comes across as sweet and amicable. Not only is her learning curve on films, she is also learning the ropes in the kitchen, which her mother keeps pestering her to, she says.

The launch:
In line with its plans to garner 32 per cent share in an estimated 14 lakh unit domestic refrigerator market, Korean electronic major LG announced the launch of 22 new models in the frost-free refrigerator category.

"With this new range we expect to increase our market share to 32 per cent in the coming financial year," LG Electronics India Group Marketing Head Home Appliances Rajiv Jain said in a statement.

The company claims to have achieved 30.2 per cent share in the domestic market and eyes a growth of 30-35 per cent in terms of annual revenue on the back of new models. The new models are available in four capacities ranging up to 320 litre and with distinctive add-on features, the company added.
