How to Write Compelling Ad Copy
The goal of ad copy is to sell. One reason that it is difficult for the creator of a product to write compelling ad copy is that they are very often ‘too close’ to their product.
Because the creator of a product or website knows the ins and outs and every angle of such they want to tout the features that are special to them. But good ad copy comes from the readers’, or customers’ point of view. Compelling ad copy addresses what the customer is interested in as opposed to highlights that stand out to the creator.
As you begin writing ad copy try to imagine how your product appears to your users. Pretend that you are totally unfamiliar with whatever it is that you are offering. Try to describe your product or service in ways that your customers will view it. What will they think is different about your shampoo or your coaching? Is it that your shampoo has a great fragrance and the bottle it comes in is easy to gripe? Do you go that extra step with your coaching services? If so, how?

It’s a good idea to make a list of the benefits your product can offer. Most people make purchases because they believe the item will somehow make their life easier or perhaps make them feel better in someway. Use the list of benefits as main points in your copy.
Does your product or service help an individual to save time or money? Can it improve the overall quality of life or perhaps one’s appearance or outlook on life? These are examples of things that should be included in your copy.
Although you may think the time saving feature of your product is the most important aspect if that approach in your copy does not produce sales you may need to use a different approach. Remember, the important thing in ad copy is not your favorite features but rather, it is what stands out with your visitors.
Another important point is keeping your ad copy brief. People use the internet to save time. Web surfers want information but they want it quickly. Give them what they want! Use short sentences, bulleted lists and brief paragraphs.

Be imaginative with your copy. Use descriptive words that will allow your readers to envision how a product or service will help them and at the same time will encourage them to buy. Elicit the emotions of your readers.
Great copy evolves. It may take a few tries to get it right. Testing is required to see if the conversion rates are as desired. Writing compelling ad copy is a skill that requires expertise and finesse. Not everyone develops that skill to the point of expertise. A knack for sales and marketing is required in order to write compelling sales messages. Anyone having the required talent and skills can command high pay and will be guaranteed almost endless opportunities for freelance work.
If you are skilled at writing compelling ad copy consider yourself very fortunate. If you are not don’t despair. You can always hire a professional to write polished and professional copy for you. Although this will mean an initial investment of funds you should soon see results which will translate into more sales.
Generally the major components of ad copy include: (1) A compelling and captivating headline. (2) A description of the features and benefits of the product or service. (3) The unique selling proposition, USP, of the product or service. (4) There should always be a call to action, which is usually a command or request for the reader to ‘buy now’ or ‘click here’.
Keep the ad copy entertaining, interesting and believable in order to succeed. Creativity is important but readers also appreciate a direct approach. Using these guidelines should assist you in writing compelling ad copy.
