The only way to win free prizes is to enter free competitions. Stands to reason doesn't it? If the competition's not free to enter, the prize isn't free! Not only that, if you don't enter you can't win. That stands to reason too.

So where do you find these free competitions? Well the truth is they're everywhere. On the internet, in magazines and newspapers, on the radio and television, wherever you look there are competitions offering free prizes for you to win. When you sit down for your breakfast, have a look at the cereal packet. Chances are you'll see a competition there and if not you probably will on the next packet!

Surrounded as you are by offers of free prizes just for entering some simple competition, how do you choose which ones to enter? Well you don't necessarily. If you want to have a really good chance of winning you want to enter as many as you can. There are two reasons for that really. Number one is that by the law of averages the more competitions you enter the greater you chances of winning. Number two is simply that practice makes perfect. The more of these things you enter the more your skills will improve. The better you become the better will be your chances of winning.

If you really want to be selective you could just enter those competitions where the top prize is money or something else you'd really like to win, like a car for example. If you really want to become a successful "comper" who wins lots of free prizes it's best not to be too choosy at first. Just enter as many as you can find and get the practice. If you win prizes along the way that you don't really want you could always use them for presents at Christmas or birthdays. That way they'll at least save you some money!

Many of the competitions you'll come across involve sending an entry by post. That costs you money even if the entry itself is free. Competitions that you enter on line cost you nothing but your time so that's a good reason for concentrating on them. In shops and supermarkets you'll often find competitions relating to particular products. More often than not you'll have to buy the product and enclose proof of purchase with your entry. If it's a product you'd be buying anyway that's fine, but don't go buying something you don't want just so you can enter a competition. That costs you money which makes the whole exercise pointless.

Is it better to enter small local competitions or the big ones run by large companies? Well the smaller local ones will usually be for smaller prizes unless a local charity has a large benefactor who donates a big prize for a special event. The big company competitions are more likely to offer the really expensive prizes. Of course in the local event you're likely to be competing with a few hundreds other entrants so you're chances of winning a prize of some sort are that much better than if you're one of hundreds of thousands. In the large nationally advertised competitions with big prizes that's exactly the sort of odds you'll be up against.

It's up to you really but remember none of these competitions is costing you anything to enter, or not much in the case of the local charity event, so why bother to choose. Enter both kinds and improve your chances of winning something. It's always a good feeling to win a prize whatever it may be!
