We have already discussed in another article the different reasons why God seems silent sometimes. Let us now discuss what you should do when God seem silent.
First and foremost is to hold on to your faith. Trust that God has a purpose for His silence and know that something wonderful will eventually result if you hold onto your faith through a time of silence. Remember God's promise to always be with you and trust Him to be faithful to His promise. Know that He is always there, even when you're not aware of His presence. Remember that His timing and ways may be different from what you want, but He always knows best.
Reflecting on the possible reasons why you are not able to hear Him is also important. Are you listening to Him? Is there too much noise in your life that you cannot hear God? Are you harboring a sin that you haven't confessed? Are you doing the same sin over and over? Have you read and understood His word?
Another thing you can do is to spend time alone in a quiet place regularly where you can pray, meditate on scripture, and truly seek God. Or you can do as David did. When God seemed to be hiding His face (Psalm 30:7), what
David did was to cry out to God (Psalm 30:8,10). And the result is, the Lord turned his mourning into dancing and his soul was filled with gladness and thanksgiving (Psalm 7:11-12).
Also keep in mind that sometimes, God speaks to us in subtle ways. Listen to the inner voice in your heart. Be sensitive to the different ways that God could use to speak to you. He could speak through other people, through nature, through the daily happenings in our lives, through our dream, and in many other ways.
Keep your heart, mind and soul open to God. Spend regular quiet moments with Him. Never ever lose hope and faith in Him even in times of silence. He may seem silent sometimes but He will always be there no matter what. Trust in his wisdom and power. He loves us and He knows what is best for us.
