If you're new to network marketing and have just started your work at home business, then no doubt you'll be confused by the amount of information available on the internet on how to build your business.

Some of the information is very useful, and some just costly and no use to you at all in your own home business opportunity, but the difficulty is knowing which is which. For example, internet entrepreneur Mike Dillard has a set of free videos about building on a budget that you might find interesting, whereas we have paid hundreds of pounds for information that we frankly could have found out ourselves by searching the web a little more. But when you're just starting out, it's easy to be naive.

Also, there are some excellent sites that will give you step-by-step instructions on how to create accounts on social networking sites, how to write articles etc, but these will usually come with a monthly cost. However, if you're a complete beginner you may prefer to pay this charge to learn.

So what can you do to Build on a Budget?
For the dedicated work at home marketer who is keen to build their business on a budget, and who is happy around the internet and a keyboard, there are many ways you can help yourself at little or no cost.

We strongly recommend setting up accounts (free) with Twitter, Hub Pages, Squidoo & Facebook in the first instance, and add to these sites as you grow in experience. Write articles on Squidoo and post them to your other accounts so that people can read them. Read other articles on Squidoo to get some idea of the kind of things people are writing about, and the styles that are used.

In your profile pages of these sites, create a link to your website. This way, if people like what you're saying, they will look to see who you are and what you do.

Next, write articles using the keywords relating to your topic (for example if you're promoting a dog walking business, use as many words as you can that people looking for information about dog walking might type into the search engine). There's an excellent Free keyword generator at google that can help you with this - just type 'google adwords keyword tool' into the search engine and follow the instructions. Try to put your main keyword in the heading of your article, then as many times within the body of the article as you can whilst still making it flow.

Above all, don't make your article simply a self-promotion exercise - try to give some genuine information and help to the people who might read it. This way they will know that you're for real and are more likely to trust you and build a relationship with you. There are lots of free article directories on the web. A few to get you started might be e-zine articles.com, zing articles, article alley, goarticles.com - don't pay to submit articles, and don't post the same article to more than, say, five article sites.

Create a blog and add to it regularly. These are easy and free to set up and there are many sites including wordpress.com or, in the UK, BT Tradespace.com. Again, give value in your blogs and post links to your social networking sites & profiles.

Submit to free classified ads sites (simply put classified ads into your search engine), add your work at home business details to yell.com and, if you're in the UK, to the uksmallbusinessdirectory.

Finally, become a contributor in forums (google 'forums') - make sure you go on forums relevant to your business, and become a respected contributor. Again, if people like what you have to say and click onto your profile, you will be able to build a relationship with them.

All of these methods of building your work at home business on a budget are Free and, of course, they take time. But like anything in life, the effort is worth it.
