The Wall

Sometimes we feel out numbered, overwhelmed and up against a wall, and at the point of surrender, we have self doubts and lose all courage to continue …but is this a good time to give in? Our little voice (the resistance) thinks so, as a matter of fact the resistance can smell victory and it gets set to go for the jugular.

Should we give in?

Well my friend that depends on the circumstances, if we are in imminent physical danger it's probably in our best interest to avoid harm and throw in the towel, but what if we are presented with a non threatening problem, hit the proverbial wall or it's Showtime. Should we bow down to the resistance or soldier on? Quitting at this point would serve nothing or no one or create any real value especially for ourselves.

The Trojan Horse

We have all wanted to quit at one time or another, when the resistance is strong quitting is the easy way out. But how do we conquer this demon? The story of the Trojan horse, whether it is fact or fiction is a great metaphor for how to overcome and persevere.

In the best-known version, after a fruitless 10-year siege of Troy the Greeks built a huge figure of a horse inside which a select force of 30 men hid. The Greeks pretended to sail away, and the Trojans pulled the Horse into their city as a victory trophy. That night the Greek force crept out of the Horse and opened the gates for the rest of the Greek army, which had sailed back under cover of night. The Greek army entered and destroyed the city of Troy, decisively ending the war.

The Greeks could have easily given into the resistance and gone home a beaten and dejected lot, but instead they had the courage to develop a plan that would end the siege for good.

Where would we be as a society today if at every obstacle, bump in the road or for every personal Troy we faced we bowed down to the resistance. Just because we seemed out manned, out gunned, and out classed doesn't mean we are. Nothing in life is impossible once we overcome the resistance and courage prevails!

When faced with the resistance…It's a good time to call on your Trojan horse.
