Lets face it, when you think of the great outdoors, Pennsylvania isn't the first place you think of. Yosemite, Yellowstone, the great and vast Rocky Mountains are part of the legendary great outdoors. And rightfully so. Camping in Pennsylvania may just be what you have been missing all along in your adventures.

Pennsylvania is part of the upper northeast region of the U. S. Which means the have all four season of the year. And luckily at some campsites you can enjoy the seasons year round. The three state parks in Pennsylvania that are opened year round are Little Pine, Ole Bull, and Promised Land.

At Promised Land State Park you can go fishing on the 422 acre Promised Lake, then visit in the winter and ice fish. There is more to do in the winter then you might think. There is twenty three miles of snowmobile trails and hundreds of trails for cross country skiing. And not to worry, you won't have to pitch a tent in the snow and cold, cabins are also available.

The seasonal state parks have just as much to offer. The top seven state parks are Champan, Parker Dam, Gifford Pinchot, Shawnee, Pine Grove Furnace, Prince Gallitzin, and the huge Pymatuning. Each park has a different flavor. Records show that Pymatuning is one of the most visited parks in Pennsylvania. It is by far the biggest state park in Pennsylvania being 21, 122 acres. The park has one of the biggest lakes that is well over seventeen thousand acres.

The rules and regulations at the state parks are just about the same as everywhere else. You can bring your pets a long as its dog, cat or a caged animal, that being a bird or something of the sort. Of course, no fires outside of the fire rings and grills. There is one rule that might make some campers go to a local campsite. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited for the state parks. Leave the beer at home in this case or go out and rough it on your own.

Hunting and game is one of the major attractions in the outdoor camping experience. This can be done in season of course and with the proper permits and paper work. Common game in the state include whitetail deer, wild turkey, pheasant and grouse.

Black bears and coyotes are dominate in areas that you would camp. Be sure to leave out no open food around the campsite. If hunting is not your cup of tea, take a ride out to one of the elk ranges. Elk are much larger then deer in size and stature. A Male elk can weigh up to one thousand pounds. There are ranges all over the state.

As you begin to think about your next vacation, consider camping in Pennsylvania (PA). You're bound to have a wonderful time interacting with nature.
