Antioxidants combine with free radicals neutralizing them so no more damage can be done so are very helpful in dealing with this problem. Scientists don't know what daily dosage of antioxidants to take to win the battle over age related diseases, but they know that foods rich in antioxidants will greatly improve how we live and feel as we age.

Antioxidants are easy to find because they are all around us. Look in the nearest farmer's market or in the produce aisle. Fruits and vegetables are the principle sources of antioxidants.

Examples of antioxidants include: * Vitamin C * Vitamin A * Vitamin E * Lutein * Lycopene * Beta-carotene

Other important ingredients (minerals) to help boost your immune system are zinc and selenium which although not antioxidants help fight against free radical damage.

Legumes, nuts, cold water fish, seafood and red meat all contain antioxidants. So to help reduce disease in your body you should eat the foods named plus a good variety of dried fruits and vegetables to increase the amount of antioxidants in your body. Try and stay away from juices as they contain sugar which is not needed by the body and eat fruits in their natural state as much as possible.

Food is a great essential we all need and it does more than quench our hunger. Natural substances in foods we eat help us to live longer, stay younger and free of disease as we all get older.

Eating the right foods boosts your immune system, metabolism and energy levels so that you can live an active healthy life.
