I had problems getting pregnant too but now I have two sons. I know how hard it is to face your period every month when you really want a baby. So here are five tips to help you on your way!

We know that a healthy diet will help you to get pregnant but these days it is very difficult to obtain the nutrients your body needs from food alone. The vitamin content of fresh fruit and vegetables declines as soon as the crop is harvested - how much time has elapsed between the harvest and the fruit arriving on the shelves of the supermarket?

There are ways of compensating to ensure you get the vitamins you need. You need to consider supplementing your healthy diet with good quality vitamin and mineral pills. It is important to make sure you don't overdose on vitamins as in the wrong quantities they are toxic to your body - not the effect we had in mind!

Folic Acid

Almost every women trying for a baby knows that she should take folic acid to prevent the baby having Spina Bifida. But not everyone knows that your body needs folic acid to produce DNA. It is one of the essential B vitamins that most women are deficient in.

Women who are vegetarians and vegans are most likely to suffer a deficiency. As are those women who suffer from digestive disorders and diarrhoea. Folic acid deficincy causes fertility problems in men as well.

Selenium

This is of particular importance to the man in your life. Selenium is used in the production of sperm's tails - they need to be long in order to get to your egg on time. Immobile sperm is a problem linked to lack of selenium as is low sperm count. When men are found to have low sperm count, tests on their selenium levels often come back low as well.

Get your man down to the Dr today - lack of selenium can be solved by taking a supplement of 100 ug per day - not a bad price to pay for increased fertility and longer tailed sperm!

Essential Fatty Acids

These fats are also involved in boosting your baby's brain and central nervous system. Due to increased awareness of healthy eating, most of us are probably now overdosing on Omega 6 - one form of essential fatty acid which is found in vegetable oils.

To help prevent miscarriages and abnormal sperm, you should increase the quantity of Omega 3 fats in your body. Swop some Omega 6 sources for Omega 3 to balance out the requirements of a healthy body. You can find Omega 3 in green vegetables and oily fish such as Salmon or Mackerel.

Vitamin B

It has been suggested that B6 can double your chances of getting pregnant. It regulates the levels of Oestrogen and Progesterone in the body.. There is some evidence to suggest that vitamin B6 also reduces your chances of having a miscarriage.

Vitamin C

Ovulation can be improved by taking Vitamin C.. In the 1970's women were given this vitamin when undergoing fertility treatment. Vitamin C is important to both parties as it helps ovulation and increase the volume of sperm.. It is found in citrus fruits, kiwi, brussel sprouts, Watercress, Strawberries and red peppers.

I hope that the above tips will give you some hope in overcoming your fertility issues.
