Happy New Year !?!?

It seems every year the winter holiday festivities come faster and faster. The holidays can be very stressful and demanding. Our time is quite often stretched thin, meeting the demands of our families and friends. By this time, the only thing that doesn't feel stretched thin is our bellies.

Between office holiday parties and family parties then followed by New Years Eve celebrations many of us overindulged. At first, it was just a cookie here and there, then it was only a piece of chocolate, and then it was only a few chips with salsa, and so on. Your body has taken a beating from staying up late and not sticking to a proper way of eating.

The dust has finally settled and you decide to step onto the scale to assess the weight gain from over participating in the holiday festivities. You think to yourself, "I was really pretty good and did not overindulge much. I know there were many gatherings but I was careful." This inner talk takes milliseconds just as you are stepping on the scale. Your assessment-Obviously my scale must be wrong. How could I have possibly gained that much weight?

Many of us were on a healthy path leading up to Thanksgiving but the remainder holiday celebrations wreaked havoc on our system. You are not alone, as holiday weight gain happens with many of my clients. It's important that you don't beat yourself up because of the weight gain. You've been on a healthy path and you took a short bend in the road. You may think, "What do I do now?" It's simple-get back on the right path.

The New Year is here and don't fall in to the trap with millions of others making the New Year's resolution to lose weight. This year, focus on a new healthier lifestyle. It is not all about a diet "because diets don't work." It's about choosing a lifestyle change.

The first goal is to figure out the amount of weight to lose for you to be at a healthy weight. By learning to live a healthier lifestyle, you will be able to lose the weight required for you to be at a healthy weight. There are many different ways to achieve weight loss. I personally found the best program to use is "Take Shape for Life." This program truly guides you to new "Habits of Health."

If you can eat once every three hours then you can do this program! It's actually that simple! You get to eat five portioned controlled meals per day (with over 80 choices) and then you have one Lean & Green meal. The Lean & Green meal consist of 6 ounces of lean protein and a green vegetable or salad.

One of the best parts of this program is that you are provided a Health Coach to help guide you through the first phase of weight loss. The Health Coach stays with you after you reach your goal weight. He/she can help you transition into the part of the program that will keep you on track and help maintain your healthy lifestyle.

As you begin to change your eating lifestyle, some people may find it hard to ct calories or manage cravings. The easiest way to manage these cravings and to decrease calorie consumption is by drinking water. More times than not, when we think we are hungry, we are in fact thirsty and our brain is just sending us a signal and we misinterpret what it is we need. Drinking water throughout the day will help you through those tough times when you are craving something decadent.
