You will not score in any sport without focus. Your opponents would easily take away the ball from you. To be a great basketball player, rigorous training is needed. It is not an easy task, but it is your decision to be a high achiever in sports.
You need a plan to overcome compulsive behavior, and being focused to reach that goal. You have to be encouraged, focused, and determined. Goals must be realistic.
It is not your opponents that will weaken your desire to overcome compulsion. Be wary of temptation. Concentrate on your resolve. Do not allow temptations to drift into your subconscious be steadfast and chase them out, these will cripple your resolve. In the face of temptation, do not waver. Be warned when temptations occur, accept it but refuse to give in. Do not yield when friends tempt you. Do not take in junk food and you will overcome. Give yourself encouragement when you succeed.
It is earnest to refuse that you cannot do anything. Stubbornly refusing to do something has power. It is outright refusal that makes decisions firm.
Being committed is to stay focused. Be like an athlete preparing for the challenge. Be fixed on what you intend to achieve. Do not be preoccupied. Just as an archer aims for his target, he is focused to hit the target. Once he has fired his arrow, he relaxes and gets ready to be focused again. The focus is exhausting. Be firm. Emulate the athlete. Aim for the target and be absorbed on it everyday, especially just before you eat or face temptation. When it is finished, take it easy and prepare for the next target. The mind can be very focused, and you will often find that it was all in vain, without being aware until it's too late. This occurs to everyone. It can give you a thrust in your resolve to be on guard.
Resolute decisions end mental wars. Faint decisions are meaningless. There will be circumstances when you concede and feel you failed. Be firm. If you have made the decision to finish a bowl of food per meal, decide to feel hungry before eating. Stick to your decision! "I am not getting pushed around any more. Food is not my master. I am immovable. My decision is unchangeable. I will not waver." The struggle ends.
You are firm to be successful. Daily you review the reasons as to why you have made these decisions. As soon as you slacken in your decision, the struggle starts. Do not buckle, you will succeed.
Compulsion is a recurring pattern. Emotions stir to a storm when pain comes in: insecurity, anxiety, fear, emptiness and deprivation. These feelings will not exist if your decision is resolute.
