Which is the best method for a hair transplant?

This is a difficult question to answer as there are proponents of both techniques. Although, FUT is considered an advance over the 'mini-micrografting' hair transplant procedure, many transplant doctors do not consider it as advanced as FUE because the technique still requires larger areas of the scalp to be removed than single follicle extraction. Proponents of the FUT technique say that there are also problems inherent in removing individual follicular units with small punches. First, any significant variation between the incident angle of the punch and the exiting hair can result in graft transaction. It is known that it is difficult to keep the punch parallel to the follicles throughout the entire length of the graft as the visual cues used to guide one's hand are lost once the punch passes into the depths of the tissue. Another disadvantage of both follicular techniques is the requirement of long hours of time and skilled teams of assistants for the preparation of 3,000 odd follicular hair transplants through dissection. My feeling is that the final result is very operator related.

Hair transplantation as a means of treating hair loss has been around for a long time. Unfortunately, some clinics today still use methods that are outdated and can cause pain, scarring and less than presentable results. This article highlights some of the hair transplant methods that you should avoid like the plague.
Round / square grafts - this is the original method that leaves patients with a scalp that resembles that of a plastic doll. It involves taking a number of smallish grafts with a hole-punch device and transplanting to the affected area. The result is a pluggy look that does not look natural and only becomes more ridiculous as time wears on.
Line grafts - this involves moving a short strip of donor hair from the side or back of the head, then transplanting the entire strip into a trench that is surgically cut into the receiving area of the scalp. The end result is a line of hair that looks unnatural.
Flap technique - this procedure involves moving a flap of skin with its tissue, hair strands and follicles from the side or back of the head to the front hairline by cutting it on three sides and stitching it to the bald area. This can cause serious problems including excessive scarring, infection, disfigurement in the forehead area and hair growing in the wrong direction.

Scalp reduction - in this procedure the bald area at the crown is cut away and the edges surrounding the wound are pulled together and sewn at the middle. This technique causes many problems including potentially hideous scarring, accelerated hair loss and infection.

Different methods of permanent hair transplant:

1. Strip method of Follicular Unit Transplantation: This is the most popular method of permanent hair transplant because it is the least expensive method. In a strip method a small piece of skin is removed from that region of head where hair growth is rich. Then, this area is sutured. After this, the donor strip is divided in small individual hair groups. Thousands of small slits are made in the bald area and unit hair groupings are placed into them. Vitamin supplements and volumizing shampoos are recommended. You can use creams to remove rash from the donor area of head. The hair transplant cost is comparatively high in this case.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction method of Permanent Hair Transplant: Follicular units are extracted from tiny puncture holes of the donor area. After this, the extracted tiny follicles are placed in the bald area of the head. After a few months new hair start growing from the transplanted area. Follicular unit extraction method is an affordable hair transplant method. In this process hair transplant cost is comparatively less.Often, 3 to 5 transplant sessions are required, with the cost ranging from $4000 to $1000. Curly and wavy hair looks denser and requires less hair transplant session to achieve a cosmetically acceptable look.
