As any pregnant woman will tell you, pregnancy definitely does take its toll on your body. Few women realize just how tough it can be, until they finish up pregnant. Sure, you hear about morning sickness, heartburn, and fatigue, but do you know that you are at more risk for dental issues during pregnancy, particularly gum disease? Naturally, it's all blamed on hormones, which may be the situation, but if you haven?t always sorted your teeth or seen the dentist as you must, you definitely want to rectify that before you get pregnant if you can, or take extra care to see the dentist and care for your teeth during your pregnancy. Gum illness if not treated could cause all sorts of problems, and even cause you to lose your teeth, so it isn't something to take for granted.

Basically, there are times in your life when you'll be at an increased risk for developing gum disease, and pregnancy is an example of those times, but in the final analysis, it all comes down to dental care.

There is another reason that you need to make sure you care for your teeth and gums during pregnancy, one that could be enough to bump you to do it, even if the thought of losing your teeth wasn?t enough to do it. Some researches have proven a link between gum illness and poor dental cleanliness with premature labor and very low birth- weights.


Your dentist will also have to know what medications that you could be taking and will then do a total examination, to see what dental care if any you need. It could be a simple cleaning, or you will need antibiotics if you already showing some of the appearances of gingivitis, it all relies on you. Your dentist will make sure that no procedures or medications are given that might most likely harm your baby.

Another way to stop gum illness during pregnancy is to make sure that you eat a healthy diet, and stay away from sweet, sweet foods as much as feasible. Your baby doesn?t need all that extra sugar, and your teeth and gums don?t either.
