Getting Through a Road Trip

Piling everyone in the family in the family car can be a pain, but there are a few things that you can do to make the time go faster and the traveling easier. The main enemy of any trip is the boredom that you experience on the way there and back. It you are flying to your destination, there is less time to get bored and a book or a movie might be enough.

Even just listening to music can sometimes be enough if the distance and time is not too great. Many airlines offer an in flight movie on a long trip and some even offer personal televisions for each passenger. There are some amazing devices that help pass the time, but for my money, nothing will ever be as good as a book. Technology may change and everything gets smaller and more compact, but a book can entertain for hours and is always a handy thing to take on a trip.

Alas, the book isn't even immune to these advances in technology. Almost every book is available for digital download. You can download a book to your laptop or to your IPod. There are even dedicated devices like the Kimble that download books digitally and allow you to read them in full pages just like a real book. These types of devices are easy to take along because they are small and compact. Carrying around one Kimble or IPod around, with multiple books on it to last you the entire trip, instead of dragging along three or four bulky books is so much more convenient than the old way.

In addition to having a book at your fingertips, you can also use most of these devices to have a song or a movie at your fingertips as well. As well as having all these great things to keep you bust, you can also use handheld games to entertain. These handheld video games are great for keeping younger kids and teenagers busy and entertained.

Of course, if you have older kids, they will probably just spend the whole time texting their friends back home, so it might be a good thing to take the phones out of their hands for a little quality family time. Of course, if you aren't careful, you could spend the whole trip working with all these high tech ways to communicate. Internet and phone service is available virtually anywhere and you could get caught up working if you are not careful.
