We recently spent a weekend at our cottage by the lake. It's a beautiful and serene place...the perfect get-away for a much-needed respite from our hectic lives. We spent our time conversing, reading, and fishing. We love to fish. Simply being on the water in our small fishing boat is relaxing and enjoyable for us. It doesn't really matter whether the fish are biting or not; it's just the act of fishing that pleases us. We've done some of our best thinking out on that lake while fishing. The solitude and peace is very inspiring.

I usually take food with us to last us for the entire weekend, thus eliminating wasted time and energy grocery shopping during our precious time at the lake. Besides, there is not a grocery nearby, so it is very inconvenient and time-consuming to shop for groceries while there. I certainly don't want to leave the lake for such a mundane chore. One of the food items I always take with us on our get-away weekends is a huge fruit basket.

Filling my large willow basket with various appetizing fruit selections is easy. Choosing delicious, ripe pieces of fruit and arranging them in a colorful way is an easy task my family shares. They can select their favorite kinds and take part in making sure these choices are packed, thus making the packing very easy for me. Various fruit selections my family enjoys are apples, pears, oranges, and bananas. Grapes and berries are also a popular choice. In fact, I can't think of any fruit that my family does not enjoy.

The over-sized handle of my huge willow basket makes the fruit basket easy to carry. Serving and eating from a fruit basket is also very easy; simply grab an apple or a pear and head out to the boat, munching on a sweet, juicy piece along the way. Clean-up chores involving the fruit basket are easy, as well. Simply share discarded cores, peels, rinds, and seeds with nature: place near trees for bugs, birds, squirrels, raccoons, and even bears to enjoy.

As it just so happened on this particular weekend, fishing was excellent. We caught numerous fish: bluegill, yellow perch, largemouth bass, and walleye. Preparing and eating our catch is just as enjoyable for us as the actual fishing is. I arranged these grilled pieces of fish fillets on a huge platter, surrounded by round slices of citrus fruit. The colorful arrangement of oranges, limes, and lemons made an appetizing presentation fit for any gourmet. The citrus flavor and scent was a refreshingly delightful treat which complimented the mild fish flavor perfectly, proving to be an easy and healthy side dish.

Fruit is great for every meal of the day: breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, and even dessert. It is a healthy and nutritious food choice that satisfies sweet cravings, calms hunger pains, and gives the burst of energy needed to live a healthy lifestyle. So, take my advice and remember on your next weekend get-away to put together a fruit basket filled with your favorite flavorful, ripe choices for a fulfilling and easy food option.
