You can source grape vines from numerous grape nurseries. With the increase in technical advancement and widespread use of the internet, you no longer need to go to the grape nurseries but can opt to have it delivered at your doorstep. However, most people still prefer buying vines from the local nurseries as it gives you a chance to see the quality of vines before purchasing. Though every nursery will assure you that they provide the best of vines, yet the quality varies.

Premium grapevines are in high demand and so every grape nursery takes great care to maintain very high standards of fruit vines. It is quite common today for famous grape nurseries to have all their fruit vines bought in advance, in some cases by as many as two years. The increase in demand of quality vines in the international market has resulted in vine yard owners and investors buying nurseries not yet grown stock in advance. Many grape nurseries have reinvested profits to develop state-of-the-art facilities and to establish new vineyards to help keep up with demand from vineyard owners who relay heavily on grape nurseries for their new vines.

There has been good, as well as bad news, for the increasing number of vineyards in places like California. Increase in demand of grape vine fruit have resulted in growers becoming increasingly selective about the quality of vines they purchase. Increasing competition and scarce space have resulted in disease resistant varieties being produced which have also meant that the end consumers get to purchase high quality grape fruit products at a reasonable price. This has also resulted in some traditional and older varieties becoming scarce in grape growing nurseries.

Most of the times you have a choice of buying vines from a grape nursery that have its own production facilities or from 'middle men' who buy vines and then resell them. The possibility of middle men having numerous varieties of vines is high as he buys from a wide range of suppliers. On request they can order a particular grape vine variety for you from their nursery stock.

Grafted vine production is a relatively difficult process of producing vines for a newly established grape nursery and it may take some years to master it. Though an older grape nursery has a higher chance of mastering the art of grafted production, yet there are possibilities of something or the other going wrong as grape production depends a great deal on temperature of a particular place. An older grape nursery is most likely to stick to those varieties they have been traditionally growing, but that does not mean that it is always the case.

If you are in search of a grape nursery for bulk purchases you should research properly before buying one. You can find such information in forums, ask people around or check online. Find out:

- How long a grape nursery has been around?
- Their production facilities i.e. do they buy grape vines from someone else or have their own production facility.
- Is certification provided by the nursery?
- Do they have any complaints against them by either consumers or vineyard owners?

It is important for new grape growers to gather as much information available before buying for the first time. A reputed grape nursery having a long stint in the industry can help you out with these questions. Various vine varieties are suitable only for a particular climatic condition, so you need to know what suites you. Moreover you need to know how to look for healthy vine varieties. Once you have those vines you should be absolutely clear what is to be done with them.
