Stop Looking for Happiness - You Already Have It
I have bad days. The alarm clock goes off long before I am ready for it. My hair looks awful. My kids are driving me nuts. The bills are overdue. The project at work that I have been working on all week has to be re-done. Does this sound familiar?
These are the days that I have a really tough time finding something to smile about. Even though I know how incredibly lucky I am, I would rather wallow in my misery. It just seems easier than smiling.
When I was younger, I thought happiness was something I experienced only when good things came my way. I was wrong. You don't find it. You feel it. Happiness is a state of mind that comes from within us. It is not now and never has been dependent upon external circumstances.
How to we feel it? Feeling happiness and joy requires you to change your attitude and perception about your life's experiences.
*Is the sun hot and miserable or bright and beautiful?
*Is the glass half empty or half full?
*Does a rainstorm drag you down or do you only see the beauty of the rain?
*Do you make excuses or do you pursue your dreams?
*Do you complain about lack of money or do you make the most of what you have?
Changing your attitude and perception can be very challenging for most of us. It requires you to always be aware of how external events are affecting you and not letting negativity creep back into your thinking.
Remember, you and only you are in control of your happiness. Your perception is the key to your happiness. If you are feeling overwhelmed, rather than sitting there feeling sorry for yourself, find something that you can learn and gain from the situation.
Wake up in the morning and smile in the mirror. Welcome each day with love and savor the day. When things are down, turn them around. When things are happy, put that happy time into your mind, where you can pull it out anytime you need cheering up.
Embrace life and be grateful for the wonderful things you have. Keep your chin up and try to find the bright side to every situation that life throws you, for inside yourself lies true happiness, joy and peace.
It is our nature to be happy, only our thoughts stand in our way of experiencing it. Dispel the thoughts and you are happy. Happiness is always there, only covered and hidden. It is your decision. Always choose happiness.
