Cooking is my hobby. Going through a cookbook, watching cookery shows on TV, collecting recipes and trying to make those recipes at home is something I love. But it was Ninebean.com, which helped me to develop my love for other aspects of food and cooking.
Like I never knew the stories behind the origin of various popular recopies. One day I chanced upon an article on the history of chicken stew on Ninebean.com. It was simply fascinating! I was thrilled to find out that the oldest cookbook ever found, the Apicius de re Coquinaria, contains stew recipes, although these are fish and lamb stews rather than chicken stews. The identity of the author is unknown although there were three Romans with that name between 1 BC and 2 AD and the book is believed to date from that era.
After reading the article on Ninebean, I actually started looking for books that talk about the history of various dishes and delicacies. And in no time I learnt the origin of recipes of some of the most popular American, European and even Asian dishes. And trust me, they taste even better now!
Even though I love cooking we also often go out for dinner. We order our heart out and always try to avoid fatty food. But we never really know the exact nutritional value of the food or have any information on our calorie intake. But now my worries are coming to an end. A blogger at Ninebean.com posts that all the restaurants in California will have to provide nutritional information about their menu items by July 1, 2009. And by January 1, 2011, restaurants will need to post calories on their menus and menu boards for patrons to check out.
While it is good news for all of us in California I urge all the bloggers of Ninebean.com to write more and more articles on the need of such information. So that one day most of the good restaurants around the world can go the Californian way and provide the customers with all the calorie information.
When it comes to ensuring that my family has a healthy diet I always refer to Ninebean.com. It was on the site that I first came across the fact that the humble black bean could actually help my brother lose weight. Just a few of those innocuous beans everyday and black beans can help make you trim, fit, healthy, pump you full of anti-oxidants, and give you great skin.
While cooking a great meal for the family is always exciting it is also important to ensure that the food is safe. Till date I used to put chlorine drops in the drinking water to make it contamination free. But as a blogger of Ninebean.com points out, using too much chlorine in water may make the water contamination free but chlorine itself can be detrimental to our health in many ways and even cause cancer! Now even though I still put chlorine drops in water I also use the reverse osmosis technique in my water filter to remove the chlorine before making the water ready to drink.
From water to food, cooking to drinking, if there's one online hub that makes life easy it's surely http://www.ninebean.com.
