The Illustrious Story Behind the Salvatore Ferragamo Handbag
It was in the year 1910, that a man by the name of Salvatore Ferragamo began to practice the craft of shoe making and leather craft in his home town of Naples Italy. While so many of todays top designers can boast of the time that they spent in prestigious design schools, this little known, unassuming craftsman could do none of that.
No Formal Education
What Salvatore Ferragamo had to work with was an innate level of talent and desire, as well as a true love of the craft of sculpting and crafting beautiful things to wear from leather. He was in the right place at the right time, because for a budding shoe and handbag designer, Naples in 1910 was a veritable gold mine of inspiration.
A Search for a Better Life
It was his decision to move to the United States in search of a better life that was to be the turning point in his career. It was by sheer happenstance that Salvatore Ferragamo achieved the level of greatness that he did, because all that he had in mind when he crossed the Atlantic was thoughts of finding a good job that would pay the rent and keep food on the table.
His Early Days in a Boston Sweat Shop
He was the 11th child of a poor family of 14, so surly he must have looked forward to being able to send some of the humble earnings he dreamed of back home to his parents and siblings in Italy. After spending some time working a shift in a boot factory in Boston, he found his way to Hollywood California.
He Finds Quick Success in Hollywood
It was there that he opened a shoe repair shop that he felt was surly his ticket to financial independence. As fate would have it, the local clientel that found their way into his repair shop were not as interested in having their old shoes repaired, as they were in having new one ones made. It didn't take long for word to spread of the quality and attention to detail that went into the Italian craftsman's shoes and his small shoe business quickly exploded into a resounding success.
His Spirit Lives on in His Handbags
In short order Salvatore Ferragamo was hobnobbing with Hollywood's elite and overseeing a design house that was struggling to keep up with demand for his finely crafted shoes, boots, wallets, belts, purses and handbags. Today, even though the Italian shoe maker that made his first pair of shoes at the age of nine is passed on, the look and feel of his original creations can still be seen and felt in the handbags that are produced by the design house of Salvatore Ferragamo.
