There are no limits to the joys of motherhood, and it is rightly termed the ultimate dream of womanhood. The race to nine months is filled with excitements, uncertainties, and at times, fear.
The expectations are great, so are the preparations. And, the changing features of mother's body calls for greater attention to deal with the joyful adventure.
Indians love eating, and probably that's the only aspect dealt generously for the expecting mothers. This, at times, can lead to not-so-pleasing results post pregnancy, in the form of unwanted weight and loss of stamina, clearly a depressing outcome for the newbie mothers.
But, a careful planning can remove the pre and post natal blues, and facilitate the all-round development of the baby, even in the womb.
It is no surprise that the mother's womb is the first learning platform for the babies, and the scientific experiments can only accept the fact. That's why, thousands of years back, Indian yogis devised the techniques, which helps in creating a spiritual co-existence for the dual-life forms, joined in motherly bliss. Practicing yoga during the labour rejuvenates both the bodies, and even paves the way for proper development of child, when it enters the world.
"Indians tend to be overcautious while expecting, which is really uncalled for," says Vandana Trivedi, a practitioner and trainer for 20 years. She points that such concerns makes the expecting mothers dull and restless during the labour. Rather, they can have a very active life till the time of delivery. It can be easily achieved through yoga, which helps them to remain agile and recover quickly post pregnancy.
Meeting Vandana turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Anuradha Pradhan, a marketing communication professional. "I met her when I was six months pregnant. Her sessions melted away all my pains and energized me till the last day of my pregnancy," she said. "I started with many doubts and fears in my mind, but she was able to infuse a lot of positive energy in me."
The ancient wisdom says a great deal about creating a right platform for the coming child. Patanjali's yog sutra also mentions some fruitful techniques which can help in creating a favourable environment within the womb. It is believed that yoga practice during the pregnancy significantly improves the physical and mental development of the child.
And it is more beneficial if the expecting couple do the asanas together. "It creates a wholesome effect on the trio," says Vandana, "and the involvement of father completes the circle creating a spiritual bond between the family, which certainly will lead to better understanding and healthy relations."
Her ante and post natal workshop is helping the expecting parents to fight the pregnancy blues together.
Vandana's techniques are very simplified and easier to follow, unlike the complicated version of yoga practiced elsewhere. Her four-day workshop gives sufficient insight into the ways of performing asanas during pregnancy, their effects as well as some useful tips like the effects of sound and music on the embryo. Thereafter, one can practice within the comfort of home throughout the labour, and after it as well.
