Due to the increasing pressure on executives to carry out the company's goals along with effectively managing their teams, there has been a gradual increase in the demand for professional executive coaches. Despite this increase in demand of professional coaches, it can be very risky to work with them as there are very less (or no) standards on which members can enter in this profession. Certain organizations take a little effort to train coaches, but their manuals and authority isn't accepted universally. In a profession like this, there are many good coaches who don't have proper credentials to support their credibility.

Also, there are coaches with good credentials but improper track records. It can be very disastrous to employ a bad coach as the least he/she can do is waste a company's time and money and the worst that he/she can do is destroy an executive's career. Many executive coaches come from fields like human resources, psychology or management who have had prior experience on human psyche and/or what should be done in tricky management and executive situations. Their chances of working can depend on their experience but situations change with time and past experiences might not be enough to deal with them.

The experienced coaches come from real estate, sports and related unorthodox backgrounds. These have proper track records of dealing with problems regarding team work, goal setting, skill development, behavioural changes etc. Having good knowledge regarding what goes in the profession can ensure that an organization employ the best executive coach for their executives.

A professional Executive coach is one who can be an effective ally and motivator for an executive and should be chosen for enhancing results in an organization.
