Yes, you read that correctly. I said "don't sell it, tell it!"
Remember, nobody likes it when someone is obviously trying to sell something. Think of any bad TV commercial you've ever seen do you like to watch them? I don't. They're annoying! So, when you're out there "selling" your offline business marketing services, to local businesses, they know it and their guard goes up, just like everyone else. So don't sell it, tell it! Nobody likes to be "sold" too, especially when your selling marketing services. So, instead of trying to sell yourself (as if you were a walking commercial), tell them about yourself! That's right, walk in and strike up a conversation, hopefully with the owner, where you may "accidently" tell them what you do for a living. If this piques their interest, then tell them what you can do to improve traffic to their website or business. Give them some examples of what you've done in the past, or what you can do for their business. Maybe even show them a "sample case" or some study articles of other businesses that have used e-mail marketing services to improve their bottom line. I recently posted an article in my forum that may be of use to you, there's a link at the bottom of the page. Check it out.
Try showing them some videos of other businesses similar to their business that is getting great traffic. Explain to them that they are missing out on all that revenue ready traffic that should be theirs. Explain to them that they are literally letting money slip away by not utilizing video marketing. You can find cool example videos either by looking around on YouTube or searching that for that type of business and using video as keyword in Google.
Tell that local business owner, that you can land their site on the top of Google's search listings, utilizing Search Engine Optimization and therefore gaining more traffic to the site. Which, subsequently, means more sales for that business. Tell them that they need to be there. You can use Google Adwords to find out the average search volume for their keyword and main location and that that's where they need to be.
Show and explain ways that they can increase their profits with offline marketing. Every single service you offer, you must explain, is track-able, highly targeted, and completely permission based. Remember to ask him what kind advertising they're doing now. And, if it's shown it's worth as a successful advertising route? Ask them if it's certified as track-able, targeted and permission based? My bet? They can't answer you.
You can easily make great money with offline businesses, even if you're only contacting just a few daily. Remember, no one is going to do it for you. If you're not out there reaching out and trying to contact business owners, than you're not making money. Also remember, that you're going to hear "no," a lot. But, every "no" you get, is just one step closer to a yes.
So, go collect a check for goodness sake! And, start building a great offline consulting business for your self. Only you can do it!
