A nice smile is usually the first thing a person will tell about you, it often tells a little about what kind of person you are and how you take care of your overall health. Your smile is typically associated with good health, sexuality and personality, it can often seperate people and lead to good things in life. Your teeth being white is a huge factor in so many things in life, such as getting a job, finding a girlfriend and leaving a great impression on people. Unfortunately not everyone has snow white teeth to show off, this is where people have the chance to switch this with dentistry becoming more modern and more accessible from ones own home.

There are two kinds of dull stained teeth, they are Extrinsic stains and stains produced from Plaque. Extrinsic stains are caused by lack of brushing the teeth which forms plaque. Plaque is a film that builds on your teeth that is loaded with bacteria, toxins and particles of food. You can actually feel plaque build up on your teeth by running your tongue across your teeths surface, if you do feel it then you should consider brushing your teeth more often. Things like wine, food and tobacco will increase the plaque colour darkness, so you should try and refrain yourself from using these types of products.

The good news is that your dentist can remove alot of these stains through polishing and cleaning your teeth through regular checkups. But if you do have plaque you should start implementing a better oral hygiene routine into your day to day life, it will help your teeth stay healthier and minimize dental costs down the road.

If polishing does not help to reduce the darker stains on your teeth then the problem may lie within the inside of your teeth. Enamel is the toughest substance in your whole body, though it is porous, though it will still be affected by tobacco , red wine, chewing tobacco, cola , tea and even regular food with colour. Your heredity can also play a factor in how dark your teeth become, some people have no say in how discoloured their teeth become because it is passed down from past generations.

Treating teeth stains that are hereditary is alot more complicated then treating teeth that just have surface stains. Bleaching teeth at home has become very popular in the past 5 years and is an excellent, non evasive way of whitening your teeth from home.

So next time you want to whiten your teeth do not resort to making your own whitening toothpastes that consist of peroxide and baking soda or using lemon juice, this is a great way to damage your teeths enamel. Damaging your enamel will lead to teeth damage and alot of sensitivity down the road.

So if you want to whiten your teeth the proper way, you have a couple of options which include visiting your dentist for a whitening or getting some whitening kits you can use at home. Getting your dentist to whiten your teeth can take multiple visits as they have to custom make trays for your teeth and it can also be a very costly process, costing you anywhere from $500 to a couple thousand dollars. This is the reason many people are using at-home teeth whitening kits to white their teeth as you don't have to waste any time with dental visits and they are cheap and can cost anywhere from $10 to $70. The in-home teeth whitening kits are also just as effective as dental whitening if not better, as technology and brand competition evolves it is giving the consumer better products at cheaper prices.
