The Isle of Wight has a rich and important history, and there are places on it that are more well-known than others. One place where history is significant is the area of Ventnor. It is a civil parish and also a seaside resort. It was established during the Victorian area and lies on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. It's built on steep cliffs and slopes which lead down to the sea. The higher part is often called Upper Ventnor, although it is officially Lowtherville, and the lower part is just called Ventnor. Most of the amenities, the tourist attractions, and the things to do are found in that lower part. Sometimes Bonchurch and St. Lawrence - villages on each side of the area - are included when someone talks about Ventnor. Other times they are not, as that is a matter of personal opinion and preference. Because the area is very sheltered it has its own microclimate and it's much sunnier there on average than in the rest of Britain. There are fewer frosts there and generally the temperatures are warmer. Because of the different climate there are a lot of subtropical plants and flowers that have been planted in that area and they thrive, making Ventnor Botanic Garden and other, similar areas particularly notable.

Ventnor was originally a small hamlet for fishing but it started to grow as a town, mostly with the coming of the Isle of Wight Railway. That helped build the town up as a tourist spot and also as a health resort. For people who had tuberculosis the warm air there was thought to be very healthy. The beaches there are much smaller than other beaches on the Isle of Wight, but they are still very popular with many tourists and they are beautiful. No matter what you're looking to do, Ventnor on the Isle of Wight is a good place to do it. There is so much natural beauty there, and the warm climate makes it a good tourist spot year-round, which is something that not all of the UK can readily boast.
