What is The Rocks? It is one of Australia's oldest memorial spots located in Sydney of New South Wales. Geographically set between Sydney's iconic Opera House and the Harbor Bridge, The Rocks is known as Sydney's old little historical town. In 1788, this was the first place British and Australian settlement took place, by the famous First Fleet. As far as transportation is concerned, The Rocks is located a short distance away from Circular Quay's transportation hub, very accessible to all.

What does The Rocks offer for travelers? As cliché as it may sound - fine food and great shopping and great history.

Tourists make sure to visit The Rocks Discovery Museum where memories of the pre-European era come back to life. Night owls try The Rocks Pub Tour for a pub crawl of the best places to see, be and drink at. There is also a Sydney Visitor Centre for those who are looking for detailed information, explanations and maps, which is located in The Rocks Centre, which is at the corner of Argyle and Playfair Street. The cruises, namely Captain Cook, Matilda and Magistic which leave from the Sydney Harbor from sunrise (with breakfast), sail around for lunch (with seafood) and then provide sunset cocktails for patrons.

And then there is shopping, where the women (and now men) of the world are experts. The cobblestone pavements and laneway shops have it all - specialty stores, boutiques and galleries - offering mementos, Aboriginal artifacts, imported delicacies, international brands and even The Rocks Market, Sydney's first street market, open from 10am-5pm weekends. The market has over 150 stalls usually by locals showcasing indigenous talent. If you are hunting for jewelry, antiques, photography pets or even Paella, you would be in luck. Important shopping spots to remember are Metcalfe Arcade, Nurses Walk, Playfair Street, Clocktower Square and George Street.

For food, the options are endless. Steaks, seafood, pancakes, gelati, coffee in a garden, of course this comes complimentary with warm sunshine, cool weather and the view of beautiful grand harbour. Most creative food prize goes to Pancake on the Rocks, for great pub food and a five-star atmosphere. The Rocks is often popular for its cold beers and live bands, completely trendy and outdoorsy enough for the family.

So besides going to mundane places like the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Opera House during a New South Wales visit, try new places like The Rock nestled right downtown Sydney! Sometimes best things in life come in small (and hidden) packages!
