Everyone seems to want to lose weight at one time or another. Some people seem to have little problem dropping pounds when the starting gaining weight, while others just can't lose no matter how hard they try and no matter what new diet they try.
One way that I have had success losing weight is by keeping track of my calories. It seems like a pain in the butt but it really isn't. What I like about tracking my calories is that it teaches you how much you should really be eating and what foods are healthier to eat. You learn not to waste your calorie allotment on high calorie foods.
I like that I'm not on some trendy diet, I'm just eating healthier. Many athletes keep track of their calories so that stay at their optimum weight. Since you're not following some diet, you don't have to buy a book or special foods, so if you're concerned about spending money this is great. There are a number of good websites that you can use to get the calorie amounts for the foods you eat. Some will also let you keep track of your totals on their website. A good one is FitDay.com.
The first thing you need to do is go online and find out how many calories you need at your current weight. Next you need to decide how much weight you want to lose per week. 3,500 calories equals one pound. So if you want to lose two pounds each week you need to subtract 7,000 calories from your weekly intake of food. If your calorie intake for your weight is 2,500 per day, you need to subtract 1,000 calories per day, so you'll be limited to 1,500 calories per day to lose the two pounds per week.
If you want to lose more than two pounds every week you should talk to a nutritionist or a doctor who specializes in weight loss.
