Coping with anxiety attacks is undoubtedly tough especially if they take place repeatedly and you are continually wondering when the next one is going to take place. Take the following small steps and you will learn easy methods to rely on yourself for dealing with an anxiety attack.

  • The very first and probably most significant is to understand that your body needs to rest and relax in order to recover. So get started by making a list of activities that you really find relaxing or restful. Include whatever you want such as going for a walk, having a pleasant soak in a hot bubbly bath, sitting down calmly in a cosy corner reading a book, gazing out of your window and looking at the clouds move by and taking a few minutes doing a few stretching exercises or laughing with the kids.

  • The next step is to make a list of things that you know make you feel much better and this will be different for everyone. My checklist includes; drinking a glass of water, eating a healthy meal and swapping a cup of coffee for a cup of peppermint tea.

  • Try and get to bed a bit earlier so that you can get more sleep and include a number of of these restful fun activities every day without fail. You will be amazed at how different you will feel.

  • Finally, make an action plan for dealing with your anxiety attacks. So that irrespective of what situation you find yourself in you are mentally prepared. Make plans for different ways of taking small relaxing breaks. These might be an easy as going to the bathroom or going outside to stroll around the garden.
