Equipment Legs
This may not seem like a typical feature of traditional kitchen requirements, but stability and strength are important parts of the kitchen decor as over time these parts can become worn which can result in the risk of food spillages and health and safety breaches. Health and safety in a kitchen should always remain a high priority as food standards and hygiene inspectors will expect to see it.
Electrical Components
It may comes as a surprise, but the electrical components in a commercial kitchen can be much more numerous than just the expected oven and lights. Every little individual part can be worn and replaced when no longer acceptable for use. This includes:
* Infrared heat lamps
* Gantry shades and lamps
* Hot plates and heater pads
* Energy regulators
* Thermostats
* Tubular heating elements
* Ceramic heaters
All these parts are subject to reduction in quality and function over time and should be checked annually for signs of wear and tear. Remember, some of these parts are exposed to extremely high temperatures and can easily fall out of use. There is often no need to replace the whole unit if only one small component is faulty.
Kitchen Ventilation
In a kitchen environment, it is also very important to keep the area well ventilated. In most restaurants, direct access to open air is often restricted for hygiene reasons, so an effective and easy to maintain ventilation system is required. This can include canopy hoods, ceiling circulation units and grease filters - all of which have to be maintained on a regular basis. Maintenance includes cleaning out the interior of the ventilation system so that build up of waste doesn't prevent the system from operating correctly.
These three areas of the kitchen may not be as obvious as the cooker, pans and refrigerator, but they all play a key part in a safe and efficiently operated kitchen environment for commercial properties. Follow these as well as all of your other standards and you should have the building blocks for a great kitchen!
