Several days ago, when I came to pick up my son from school, I found myself in the middle of a stressful situation: one of the children on the playground had fallen and hurt her arm. The counselor did her best to locate the child's parents, but the only phone number they had on file for them was the home number, and they were not back from work just yet. Then it occurred to me that we could look up their cell phone number in an online cell phone directory.

Everyone was really agitated and the child was in pain and crying. The ambulance was on its way, but we still couldn't notify her parents. I was keeping my fingers crossed as I got online and went to a cell phone directory. I punched in the family name and state of residence into the entry form located right on the home page. I immediately let out a sigh of relief, because I'd just found the cell phone numbers of both the father and the mother. In no time the counselor got them both on the phone and they were on the way to the hospital, where the ambulance was about to transport their poor daughter.

Everyone's relief was palpable, and suddenly I became a hero. They all wanted to know about this awesome cell phone directory and how to use it. What had happened earlier was not an isolated incident: reaching parents in emergencies can be problematic. I assured them their troubles were over.
