Christina Aguilera is no stranger to being in the spotlight, starting off her career as a part of the Mickey Mouse Club alongside pop royalty Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. But in recent months, Aguilera has cast an embarrassing light on herself after landing in a row of sticky situations.

Only last month she was caught out by the celebrity gossip bloggers after attempting and failing to sing the American national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner, singing “What so proudly we watched at the twilight's last gleaming” instead of the line, "O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming”. Aguilera soon after told CNN in an interview that, "I got so caught up in the moment of the song that I lost my place."

She is now back in the spotlight after being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and public intoxication whilst out and about in the West Hollywood area of California. Leaked reports of the incident rumour that Aguilera was so intoxicated with alcohol that she was unable to tell where she was. The singer encountered even more embarrassment after the LA police mugshot that was taken of her when she was arrested was leaked to celebrity news television channel, E!.

This arrest has caused concerns for close friends and family, as there have been recent reports of the petite singer going through a downward spiral after meeting current boyfriend Matthew Rutler whilst filming Burlesque alongside heartthrob Cam Gigandet and singing legend, Cher.

However this hasn’t been the first time Christina has been in the spotlight of controversy. Her most recognised controversial incident was during a performance of the track Dirrty on Saturday morning music show cd:UK, whilst touring in Britain. Her performance of the track on the early morning music children’s music show was marred with controversy after parents complained her performance was too provocative and fleshy after she was filmed singing the track in a bikini and hotpants.

Aguilera joins a long line of celebrities in the news who have had their misdemeanours outed in the public arena. The singer will not be charged for her public intoxication, but her boyfriend was charged a $30,000 bail fee to release himself after he was tested positive for driving under the influence.
