There are several possible causes of social anxiety. Like many anxiety disorders it can run in families genetically as well as be passed on as a learned habit. Without help, symptoms are likely to worsen. Sufferers are also more prone to developing depression which can further exacerbate conditions. Excessive sleep or insomnia are common sleep problems that can affect sufferers. Sufferers may also find themselves resorting to drugs and alcohol in an attempt to escape or because they feel there's nothing to live for.


The first step to overcome social anxiety is to learn about it and understand the triggers. It's important to seek help and treatment. Treatments can drastically reduce symptoms and help people overcome this debilitating disorder.
