League One may not grab all the international headlines compared to other Football League divisions, but many devoted fans agree that it's here where much of the top quality football takes place - where clubs and players aren't so distracted by commercial prospects or media attention, and can focus on playing the best they can.

With the end of the current League One season close at hand, now is the time when many teams pull out all the stops and concentrate on playing their best to avoid relegation - but even relegation doesn't have to be the end of the world.

A number of teams have famously bounced back after relegation, with the defeat injecting disappointed managers and players with renewed vigour and determination to reclaim their former glory. However, in recent years this has become a significantly harder feat to achieve, and many clubs are understandably worried about the prospect of relegation ejecting them from the League for the long term.

In the bottom half of League One, teams are battling it out to decide who stays and who goes at the climactic end of the season. Teams such as Notts County have achieved some impressive victories recently and are likely to avoid relegation, even without their strikers Lee Hughes and Craig Westcarr who scored most of the team's goals this season, but others like Bristol Rovers have fared less well.

Relegation was recently confirmed for the Rovers, who will leave League One at the end of the season after their failure to beat Sheffield Wednesday. With rumours that Stuart Campbell and Craig Hinton may be leaving the team too, it seems Bristol may lack the leadership needed to improve their game and win back their position in League One next season. The next few weeks will surely see some tense and legendary games taking place throughout the League.

If nothing else, even teams who end up being relegated out of League One can at least be safe in the knowledge that they’ll be part of the football league next season. The same can’t be said for Lincoln City, who’s relegation from League Two was recently confirmed, meaning that they will be playing in the Conference for the first time since 1988 next season. Teams relegated from League One this year will have to be careful that they don’t underestimate the rigours of League Two, or they could find themselves in a similar position to Lincoln at the end of next season.
