Water filtration systems play a major part in ensuring that the water you drink is pure and safe. Because of the current condition of the water around us, it is only practical that you have your own whole house water filtration system.

A whole house water filtration system connects to your main water line ensuring that all water that comes in to your house is safe and clean. The type of water filtration system that you should have depends on the type of contaminant that can commonly be found in your water. These contaminants could come in the form of sediments, chemicals, or iron. You can also choose to have a water filtration system that also combines a water softening feature.

One of the things that you need to consider when buying a filtration system is the flow rate. The accepted flow rate for continuous and comfortable water use is 10 gallons per minute or more. Flow rate determines the amount of water available to run your shower, faucets, and toilet, among others.

You should also consider the filter size and filter life when purchasing a system for your house. Keep in mind that the larger the filter your system has, the less likely you would need to call for maintenance. Water would also be able to flow more freely if you have a large filter. If you have a sediment filter, its life would depend on what kind of sediments you have. On the other hand, stand-alone carbon filters can last long only if you have a backwashing valve. The Pentek DGD 2501 is one water filtration system that can last up to 2 months before you need to change the filter cartridge. This is equivalent to 8,000 gallons of water.

You would also need to consider the port size. For a whole house filter, the ideal port size is one inch regardless if you have a ¾" piping. Paired with the Pentek DGD 5005, you would be able to carry enough water without any pressure drops. The Pentek DGD 5005 is also made from two separate gradient density layers that can enhance performance.

Both the Pentek DGD 5005 and the Pentek DGD 2501 can be used with Big Blue Housings. They both feature a polypropylene media filter.
