It is a very common practice these days and no doubt in moderation, a reasonable one, to have up sells when launching a new product. But I suggest being extremely wary of them.
If you come across a product or service that fits in with your business plan then buy it by all means. It is believed to be good business practice to hit someone again with a similar or complimentary product while they have their credit card in their hot little hand. It is well known among most marketers that is the time when they are most likely to purchase another product.
Lately though I've found that there are so many up sells that are bundled into some of these packages, they are actually very detrimental to the original product. Let me try to explain what I mean.
I buy product ‘A' because it is a neat fit with what my plans are to do with my website. Then I am immediately offered a complimentary product between the thank you and the download page, and then I can't get out of there, because I'm trapped in these pages that just keep hammering with a smaller and smaller costs to a product until in some cases, you get to trial it free for 7 days or whatever.
Anyway, if you take up that offer, then you get hit with another offer. Until finally you come out feeling confused and bruised. That is, if you have kept your hand firmly around your credit card and resisted temptation.
But then there is the time problem. You see, if you are to take full advantage of these ‘free' products you got access to via the download pages and finally being let go, you have to learn how to fully use the new product to see if it will work for you. The original product you actually bought is now put aside because you can learn how to use it later in your own time. Are you bruised yet or just confused?
Don't be either because it's not really bad yet.
By this time you are on so many people's lists and you get hit daily with an avalanche of emails recommending still more products for you to buy. This business of haranguing a person to keep on buying is awful.
And I believe its deceitful marketing so why would I want to listen to what anybody says who practises this marketing method? Finally (if you are a patient person or an eternal optimist like me) you say "enough!" and unsubscribe.
Thank you Get Response and Aweber for that unsubscribe button. But now I'm left without my lifetime updates to the product I actually wanted and bought because I've unsubscribed.
Perhaps there is method in the madness after all so beware of the up sells; they do bite!
