Sleeping is very important and vital to the baby's developmental stage. It is integral for his brain development. As we all know, brain development is vital to shaping and enhancing the child's learning ability throughout his growing years.

Babies spend most of their time sleeping. They fall asleep easily and very often for long hours. Although getting your newborn baby to sleep not too much of the burden, care should at all times be incorporated for him to sleep healthily and much better.

In getting your baby a good, healthy, and sound sleep, things should first be considered. The proper time of sleeping, the amount of sleep, the environment, the sleeping essentials, and his sleeping position should always be taken great attention with. Below are a few guidelines to help you with getting your baby to sleep better.

The proper time of sleeping - Babies sleep almost any time of the day, and that is perfectly normal. But you can also help them to adapt in new sleeping pattern that is beneficial for the both of you. The proper time of sleeping can be after breast or bottle feeding (Milk has a calming effect on babies that could make them fall asleep easily); also sleeping after bathing him is essential, and early at night time is beneficial for his physical and mental growth.

The amount of sleep - It is best recommended to let your child have enough amount of sleep everyday. Sleeping early at night for a duration of at least eight hours is essential for his bone development. It is important for his physical growth as during this period, the bone develops that aids the child to grow tall.

The environment - The baby's sleeping surroundings play an important role for him to sleep better. Make sure that his sleeping quarter is noise-proof and clean. Before letting him sleep, check his room, particularly his bed for insects and pests. You can disinfect his room 2-3 hours before his sleeptime. Make sure also that the room has very good ventilation and free from noise that could distract his sleeping pattern.

Sleeping position - Babies usually likes to sleep on their tummy, but that is not recommended anymore as this position has been one the causes of SIDS for the babies. The baby might suffer from suffocation because his breathing is being blocked by things close to his face. You can make him sleep on his back for better breathing stimulation. Stuffed toys and other unnecessary beddings are also advised to be removed from the bed before he sleeps to also avoid suffocation.

Sleeping essentials - In order for the baby to attain a good night sleep, sleeping essentials are of great help. Such examples of these essentials are his bedtime clothes, beddings, baby blankets, warming oil, socks and mittens for cold weathers, lullaby cd's and you can include books for you to read him stories before he sleeps.

Sleeping should be taken care of and not disregarded. It is in a healthy and sound sleep that the child's development depends upon.
