Baja Motorcycle Run
I am going to tell you about a quick little trip on sportbikes from San Diego to the tip of Baja California. This was a 6 day trip in total and was very enjoyable for all who went. We had a total of six riders and two cars for the trip.
Things needed- We had to get insurance in San Diego at the border and it cost about $100 per vehicle. It was a very short process and we were on our way. Passports are now necessary and we all had to make sure our documents were in order. We also purchased one prepaid Movistar cellphone for Mexican local calls and emergency calls if necessary.
Day one we hit the border and we got through quicker than I expected. We hit the scary city of Tijuana and we all had to pull out our kilometer sensors to watch the speed. There was Mexican Federal Police lining the highways about every 10-20 miles but they gave us no problems and waved at us as if we were local. Tijuana was nice we ate at a little restaurant called taco bell. It was not the TACO BELL we all know and love. They had some real good tacos and some $1.00 Corona beers. We had no problems in Tijuana and it seemed like any big city. I heard many bad things about Tijuana but it seemed safe to me.
Day two
We are in a city called Guerrero Negro and it seemed very small but nice. It supposedly was a famous place for whale watching but we did not have that opportunity. Roads were ok but did have some dangerous potholes with no warning. Roads are a little narrow and there is some seriously big truck traffic. I felt safe the whole time!
Day Three
Here is Loreto we decide to make it a two day stop to recoup and sleep at an RV/ motel kind of place. The place was nice and a small boy came knocking in the morning asking for our laundry and for a mighty two hundred pesos took, washed, folded and returned our dirty clothes.
Day Five
Cabo San Lucas and La Paz
Enough said La Paz and Cabo Wow! We had a great time went to the beach and also visited some local nightlife. You know the typical Papas and beers, frogs and other well known establishments. These cities were like US cities with big stores and brand names. We never felt like we were in any danger and enjoyed every minute of it. We met many Canadiens and Americans down there and we never even practiced Spanish. I really enjoyed the beach and the local restaurants. We cruised the Malecon ( which is the local name for the beach drive in the bay. We seen and met a lot of interesting people and will definitely do it again.
