SPAM stands for "Self Promotional Advertising Message". As evident from the abbreviation, SPAM is a very easy and free means of promoting anything and everything over the internet. Although it is seen as an intrusion on privacy by many people, all efforts to ban these emails have been proven ineffective. Spammers have been successful in evading the best of email filters until now.
An example of SPAM could be the emails concerning ?Viagra? or ?breast enhancement? that you could find in your mail. Depending on the spammers and the products being promoted, SPAM mails may come in couples since the email addresses could belong to any gender. SPAM does pay ? for example if a spammer promotes a product with 1000 emails, one out of these may result in a sale or income. With 10,000 emails, a spammer stands to earn more money and with a million, the chances further go up. Sending emails is free and it does not cost anything. Due to this greed of making more and more profits, spamming has increased and the result is that 80% of all mail coming into anyone's inbox today is SPAM.
Preventing SPAM has been a challenge to many webmasters across the globe. One way being contemplated is to make sending mail chargeable. This will make the spammers think twice and they may need to shell out astronomical amounts of money to send their mails. This will not only discourage them but also make the spamming sales industry financially unviable. One may expect to get an undesired mail now and then but not 1000's daily as the situation is today.
Another alternative is to activate SPAM blockers. SPAM blockers are basically software that relies on content scanning to weed out undesirable mail from your mailbox. Many a spam blockers are in use today and are quite effective. Most of the anti SPAM applications or SPAM blockers use a wide array of methods and are categorized by their speed, filtering algorithms and settings. They continuously update their illegitimate address's database and block email form them.
An ideal SPAM blocking software application should do its work efficiently and have a user friendly front end interface and should be able to function independently. It should never interfere with any other SPAM blocking applications running.
