Sony AIT-5 tape technology allows the users to conserve space as fewer AIT-5 tape cartridges can store huge volumes of valuable information. Sony AIT-5 SDX5-400C tape consumes lesser energy than other tape formats use. It saves energy cost up to 40%.
Sony AIT-5 SDX5-400W tape helps to reduce total ownership cost and offers exceptional data reliability. Sony AIT 5 format has the ability to meet the real world requirements regarding capacity, performance and reliability. The organizations can therefore conserve energy because of its low power consumption. Sony has worked and cooperated very closely with the independent vendors of software in order to certify and test the compatibility of fifth generation AIT products.
Complete interoperability and wide support of AIT-5 tape format with the leading archival and backup applications has been ensured by Sony. High capacity, high data density, AME technology, R-MIC (remote memory in cassette), WORM technology, dynamic data tracking and advanced MR Head are the powerful features of Sony AIT 5 technology.
Sony AIT-5 SDX5-400C cartridge serves with 400GB native capacity and with 2.6:1 compression ratio, the recording capacity reaches 1.04-TB. 96MB data buffer has been included in the 3.5 inch AIT 5 tape drive. This data buffer minimizes buffer overruns and helps in managing the data throughput. Sustained 24 MB/s native rate is ensured in the AIT-5 tape format which has been optimized for Windows based servers.
Sony AIT5 uses helical scan technology for recording information. The base of helical scan is stable rotating head. High data reliability and accurate recording of information with high track densities are ensured by the helical scan technique. Helical scan process is more reliable and efficient than other recording techniques. It ensure error free recording. AIT-5 tape format is based on AME-III technique. This technique further enhances tape smoothness and ensures high durability, enhanced areal recording and robustness.
AME-III utilized in AIT-5 is the advanced form of AME-II. Metal evaporation process has been improved in Sony AIT-5 tape that lowers the noise level and increases output level. AME-III reduces the particles' size which reduces the spacing loss thus elevating the recording density. This technique further enhances tape smoothness and ensures high durability, enhanced areal recording and robustness.
New innovative back-coating technique is used in Sony AIT-5 that makes the tape surface more friction resistant. Guide friction is also reduced by the back coating technology. This coating technique ensures long-term stability and further elevates data reliability. The tape cartridge also has a remote memory in cassette (R-MIC) that enables fast searches and quick media loads. User definable information, system log of tape and search map is contained in R-MIC. The information in the chip helps the tape drive to quickly advance to any file on AIT-5 tape media at a high speed.
Sensitive MR head technique is employed in the AIT-5 tape drives. MR-head technology elevates data integrity and signal output. Performance and capacity of Sony AIT-5 tape are boosted by the MR-head which also ensures backward compatibility. Highly efficient Sony AIT 5 tape offers more recording capacity per cartridge and delivers outstanding performance and output under severe conditions.
