COOL FACTOR
Enough functionality to make 007's gadget man, Q, raise an eyebrow in approval.
KEY FEATURES
This do-everything machine includes a digital compass, dot-matrix display and functionality to switch among three wireless transmitters. The latter allows for a buddy pressure-check function. 4 different dive genres handl 21% room air, EANx, technical gauge mode and freediving mode!, and the dot-matrix display is crisp and easy on the eyes. All of this comes wrapped in a strong, lightweight titanium housing. SmartGlo backlighting works great in low-light conditions and at night, and the system includes Oceanic's software accompanying a USB cable so you can hook it up to your personal computer.Downside
Having had the ability to demo this dive computer, I was impressed overall; and neutral on a couple of things. If you have tired eyes, that sleekness of the unit doesn't lend to being more readable. I had to squint in my mask to see the display in low light. So if you have bad eyesight, perhaps the Oceanic ProPlus II is a better computer for you.
Secondly, the digital compass is a bit touchy (keep in mind this was one of the testing units, and probably has been fixed). It must be flat to read out the degree measurement.
Finally, with 5-7mm gloves (we dive this cold water of the Pacific) the buttons are a bit hard to manipulate, to change settings. Also, the computer is a complex technological marvel and a DVD that came with the computer with a step-by-step guide would be nice.
