For all those people who looked at the title and were surprised, well, continue reading! Even with a full strength squad, Fremantle would have been lucky to make the eight this year, yes, they could have snuch in, but they would have been lucky. So in the end, they would have played a whole season with some fairly old players that aren't going to be playing when the club makes an impact on the finals. So for some of these players to become injured, this leaves the door open for an exciting group of tellented young players. What the Dockers are doing is something they should have done a long time ago…building a core group of young player to take their side forward.
Side such as Essendon, Melbourne, Hawthorn and others have all done it, and now they look to be on the rise and showing some great signs for the future. Fremantle have had a group of inconsistently talented footballers that have never been consistent stars. So now they are finally playing some kids…and they look good. Another positive sign is the amount of good young players they recruited in the rookie draft as well.
Players such as Steven Hill, Greg Broughton, Nic Suban, Matt de Boer, Clancee Pearce, Hayden Ballantyne as well as players from last year including Garrick Ibbotson and Rhece Palmer and Chris Mayne would be in if they didn't have injury problems. Already that is a great you core group. Add in Zac Clarke the big ruckman, Luke Pratt and then another year's worth of tallented draftees and they are well on the way to having and gun you side like Hawthorn have now.
For all of the Fantasy Footy coaches, this is a dream come true, especially considering lots of them are playing well and creating cash cows for all of us. Anyone who didn't have Hill in their team would have been crazy, and those who also chose Suban and recently Broughton would be delighted with the improvement in price thus allowing them to upgrade these players to stars later in the year. Keep your eyes on you elevated rookie Pearce and Hayden Ballantyne as they are set to rise in price after a few games.
