Headache is a term used to describe aching or pain that occurs in one or more areas of the head, face, mouth, or neck. Headache involves the network of nerve fibers in the tissues, muscles, and blood vessels located in the head and at the base of the skull. Everyone gets a headache from time to time. Some get them more often than others do. There are several different types of headache and there are many factors that can trigger the onset of a headache. Some medications even list "headache" as a side affect. Some headaches can be the side affects of a more serious medical problem.
Headache types
There are two main categories of headache: primary and secondary.
The major types of primary headaches include:
• Tension headache
• Cluster headache
Headaches are one of the most common health grievances of students, adults and even children, Headaches are very common and usually do not point to a serious illness. But even a mild headache can disrupt your daily activities. The headache may be mild, chronic or severe depending on the underlying cause and pain bearing capacity of the individual.
Our body produces natural pain killing proteins called endorphins. One of the theories suggests that people with low endorphin levels suffer from severe headache and other chronic pains in comparison with people having high endorphin levels.
Tension Headache
The name "tension headache" immediately implies the cause for this malady that affects millions of people every day. People who suffer from these types of headaches describe them as tightness in their head or neck muscles-almost like someone is pulling on them. These types of headaches often have a gradual onset unlike other possibly more severe headaches like the migraine.
Frequent Headache
If you are one of the people who suffer from this condition on a daily or near daily basis, you may wonder if there is any information or help out there for you, or if you will have to suffer with your frequent headache problems alone. There are many treatments available now that have not been available in the past.
Cluster Headache
The cluster headache is one of the least common types of frequent headache. It is usually characterized by clusters of headaches within a period of 1 to 3 weeks with breaks of up to a year in between episodes. The headaches are short ranging from just a few minutes to a couple of hours, very painful and can occur up to eight times in a day.
