If you have been too embarrassed to enter a fun park before, this summer could be your chance to shine. Improver camps are popping up all over Europe these days and if you book onto one this summer, come winter time you will be actually jumping those kickers instead of watching with envy.
Park riding is about confidence, but you also need the correct tuition. To improve most quickly it's worth getting lessons in how to ride in the park and a week's worth of intensive coaching from pro-riders is definitely the way to go.
Snowboarding in the summer may sound strange but because of the high-altitude glaciers dotted about the Alps, riding in 25 degrees and full sunshine has become a pleasant reality. If the snow is a little hard or slushy it's also not too much of a big deal when it comes to park riding as board parks don't need great snow conditions. Just make sure your board is waxed and you've got a full body protection on as you are going to fall at some point and you don't want any broken bones spoiling your fun.
British run Fusion Snowsports in Saas Fee, Switzerland offer a week long training courses in June. You'll learn how to ride in the half-pipe, hit a kicker, pop 180s and ride on boxes and rails as well as getting your accommodation and meals.
For long days and short nights, head up to Norway and check out the Snowboard Summer Camp in Stryn. This is a great camp for beginners that really don't have a clue when it comes to venturing off the pistes and into the board parks. Ages range from 10 to 50, so you will be sure to find someone of similar ability. Accommodation and meals are not included however, and Norway can be rather pricey, but the camp itself is a bit cheaper than some of its competitors at around £300.
To develop your strength and balance, Snocool camp in Tignes, France combines snowboarding skills with other sports such as trampolining and skateboarding making your days more varied and fun. They also have the option to exclude accommodation and food, so if you are on a budget you can arrange your own self-catering accommodation. But if you stay in the group accommodation you will come away feeling ultimately get a lot more from the trip.
